Bicycle bearing press · drifts sold by bearing size

Press new bearings in straight, without a hammer.

Matched aluminum drifts that sit flat on a sealed cartridge bearing, and a threaded press rod that pulls them together, so the bearing goes into the hub or frame square and evenly.

How this listing works: each size option is one pair of drifts for one bearing size. The press itself is its own option, the threaded press rod with two nuts. To press a bearing you need the rod plus the pair that matches your bearing. If you already own the rod, add only the sizes you need.

Wheel hubs

Seat hub bearings evenly, both sides at once.

Slide the rod through the hub, put a drift against each bearing and thread a nut on each end. As you tighten, the drifts push the bearings straight into their seats instead of letting them cock sideways, which is what a hammer and socket tend to do.

Hands tighten the hex nut of the threaded press rod to seat bearings squarely into a bicycle hub with the blue drifts

Bottom brackets and pivots

The same press for frame bearings.

Many press-fit bottom brackets, suspension pivots and linkages use the same sealed cartridge bearings as hubs. Choose the drift pair for that bearing number and press it in the same way, with the frame held in a stand.

How to use it

Find the size, build the stack, tighten.

Find your size

Read the bearing number on its rubber seal, such as 6802 or 6903, and choose that pair.

Add the rod

The threaded press rod and its two nuts are a separate option. You need it once; the drifts are made to fit it.

Build the stack

Rod through the hub or frame, a drift against each bearing, a nut on each end, finger-tight.

Tighten

Hold one nut with a wrench and turn the other slowly until the bearing sits flush in its seat.

What you get

Exactly what arrives in the box.

Each size option1 pair of blue anodized aluminum drifts for that bearing size, engraved with the bearing number and its bore x outer diameter in mm.
Threaded press rod option1 steel threaded rod about 9 in (230 mm) long with 2 long hex nuts.
Not includedWrenches, bearings, T-handles and a carry case. Earlier photos on this page showed a cased multi-size kit; that kit is not what this listing sells.
Need several sizes?Add each size you need as its own item, plus one threaded rod.

Worth knowing before you buy

The honest small print.

  • A size option is not a complete press. It is one pair of drifts. Add the threaded press rod once if you do not already own one.
  • It installs bearings; it does not pull them out. Remove old bearings first with a bearing puller or drift.
  • Match the number exactly. A 6802 pair is cut for a 15 x 24 mm bearing and will not sit correctly on a 6902.
  • Different sizes on each side? Some hubs use two bearing sizes. Order a pair for each.
  • Never hammer the drifts. They are aluminum and are made to be pressed, not struck.
