Car scratch remover cloth · 6 per box
Rub out the scuff before you pay a body shop to look at it.
A grey polishing cloth that carries its own fine compound. Rub it firmly over a light scuff, a swirl mark or a smear of someone else's paint, buff off the residue, and the mark fades back into the finish.
There is no bottle, pad or machine to buy. Keep the box in the glovebox or garage, and when the shopping cart, the hedge or the parking-lot door leaves a mark, you deal with it in a few minutes.
Check this first
Made for light marks, not deep scratches.
This cloth polishes the top layer of the clear coat. That is where most everyday marks sit: scuffs, haze, swirls, water spots and paint transfer from another car or a pole. A scratch that has cut through the clear coat into the color or the primer is too deep for any polishing cloth and needs touch-up paint or a body shop.
- The fingernail test: run a fingernail across the mark. If it glides over, the cloth can work on it. If the nail catches in a groove, it is too deep.
- What you get: 6 polishing cloths, each about 7.9 x 3.9 in (20 x 10 cm).
- Works on: painted surfaces of cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles and RVs, in any paint color.
How to use it
Clean, rub, buff.
Wash the area and dry it completely, because grit trapped under the cloth will make new marks. Press the cloth flat with your fingers and rub firmly back and forth or in small circles over the mark, for a minute or two at a time.
The compound leaves a light haze. Wipe it away with a clean, soft cloth and check the mark in daylight. Stubborn marks can take a few rounds.
Where it earns its place
The marks you notice every time you walk up to the car.
A grey smudge on the bumper where someone backed into a post. Pale lines on the door from a shopping cart or a bag zipper. Fine swirls on the hood from a rough wash. Hard-water spots and dull, chalky patches on older paint.
These are the jobs this cloth is for. It also works on painted motorcycle tanks and fenders, and on RV and trailer panels.
Specifications
The details, plainly.
Worth knowing before you buy
The honest small print.
- Light marks only. It will not take out a key scratch or a gouge down to bare metal.
- Test first. Try a small, out-of-sight spot before you work on a large area, especially on older or resprayed paint.
- Keep it out of the wash. Do not rinse or launder the cloth; water and detergent take the compound out. Store it in a sealed bag between uses.
- Retire a dirty cloth. Once a cloth has picked up sand or grit, stop using it on paint.
- Gloves are a good idea. The compound leaves residue on your fingers. Wash your hands after use and keep the cloths away from children.
- Painted surfaces only. Skip matte finishes, vinyl wraps, headlight lenses and textured plastic trim.
