The bird nest clip is a ring of curved, velvet-touch fingers. Open it out, wrap it around the base of a ponytail or bun, and let go: the fingers curl back closed and hold the hair inside the nest.

No hinge to pinch, no teeth biting into the scalp. One clip arrives in the color you choose.

Ponytail

Wrapped around the base, the tail falls free.

Tie a ponytail first, then close the clip around the tie. The fingers sit in a ribbed ring around the base and the rest of your hair falls out of it, so the clip covers the elastic and adds some lift where the ponytail starts.

It works high at the crown or low at the nape. Long, straight or wavy hair shows it off best.

Bun

Or hug a bun at the nape.

Twist a low bun, then wrap the open clip around its base. The fingers close over the sides of the bun and the top of it rises out of the open centre.

Shoulder-length hair is about the shortest that fills it. Very thick hair is easier in a lower, looser bun, because the nest has a fixed size when it closes.

Fixed size when closed. The nest closes to about 2.6 in across. Very thick or very long hair may not fit inside in one piece; a lower, looser bun helps.
Short hair. Hair shorter than shoulder length usually does not fill the clip.
Colors on screen. The flocked finish looks a little lighter or darker depending on the light. Caramel is a soft light orange-tan.
Grip. It holds by closing around the hair, not by pressure, so a very heavy or slippery ponytail can drift; wear it over a hair tie.
