Pedal across the lake like riding a bike on water

Sit on a saddle, hold the handlebars and pedal. That is the whole skill. Two separate inflatable hulls run parallel and set well apart, with the frame in the gap between them, so you sit above the water on a base that is wider than it is tall. A paddleboard asks you to balance before it gives anything back; this hands you rock-steady balance from the first push of the pedals.

Spread the flotation across two hulls set well apart and the craft stays steady whatever you do with your weight. That is why a first-timer can get on and pedal away instead of spending the first hour falling in.

If you can ride a bicycle, you can ride this

You sit on a bicycle saddle, hold a bicycle handlebar and turn bicycle pedals. Pedaling forward drives you forward. Pedaling backward drives you backward — the trick that makes coming off a dock easy. Turning the bars turns the propeller, so the craft steers from the same place your hands already are.

The drive is a toothed belt from the chainring back to a sealed gearbox, then down a slim leg to an aluminum surface-piercing propeller. It runs on your legs, so there is nothing to charge or refuel and the only sound is the water, which is a gift if you fish or want to get close to birds.

The propeller lifts, so launching from any bank is easy

A fixed propeller on an inflatable is a blade waiting to meet a gravel bottom. This one is on a leg that swings up and locks, so you launch and land with it raised and drop it once you are clear. Spatium rates the drive as working in water as shallow as 50 cm (about 20 in). That is the difference between a craft you can put in anywhere there is a bank, and one that needs a slipway.

Inflates for storage in the trunk and lives in a cupboard

Most people who want a boat skip the trailer, the ramp, the mooring, the winter storage and the fees that come with one. This comes apart on quick-release clamps. The frame weighs about 21 kg (46 lb) and Spatium’s own manual says it goes in the trunk of an ordinary family car; the two hulls deflate and roll into the carry backpack that comes with it. A lake day starts with a trunk, a pump and a quiet stretch of water.

A full-body workout on the water that feels like a cruise

Pedaling a water bike is cardio with a view. Your legs drive every turn of the cranks, your core keeps you upright and steady, and your hands steer at the bars, so a lazy lake loop turns into a workout you want to repeat. Buyers call it “the perfect mix of fun and exercise” and “great for exercise without feeling like a workout.”

On the water in eight steps

Setup is eight steps in the manual, and most of the clock is the pump. A two-way hand pump is in the box, so you can inflate anywhere with no mains power or compressor.

  • Inflate the hulls first, part way. Bolt the frame together, clamp on the handlebar and saddle, screw in the pedals.
  • Sit the frame across both hulls and strap it down — four velcro straps, then two hooks per cross bar into the hulls’ D-rings.
  • Then finish inflating. Spatium recommends this order because a soft hull is far easier to line up with the frame than a hard one.
  • Fit the propeller last: blade onto the shaft, leg into the stern clamp, and clip the safety carabiner to the frame.
  • Take it apart the same way. Rinse with fresh water and dry it before it goes back in the bag.
Pump both hulls to 15 PSI maximum, and hold 10 to 12 PSI on a hot day or on a dark coloured hull

Set the pressure and the hulls ride rigid

The hulls are drop-stitch PVC — the same construction used in stiff paddleboards, two layers of skin held apart by a dense weave of internal threads, which is what lets a fabric hull behave like a rigid one. Drop-stitch comes alive at pressure, so the pressure is the number worth knowing.

Pump up to 1 bar / 15 PSI, Spatium’s recommended maximum, for the stiffest ride. In hot sun, or on a dark-colored hull, hold 10–12 PSI, because the trapped air warms and the pressure climbs on its own while the craft sits on the bank. Pick any of the twelve colorways and set the pressure by the weather.

The eleven items on Spatium's packing list: frame, handlebar, saddle, two pedals, four cross bars, two inflatable pontoons, detachable propeller, hand pump, repair kit, screw kit and backpack

A quick rinse and an oiled shaft keep it ride-ready

Rinse it with fresh water and dry it before it goes away. That covers the hulls and the frame.

For the propeller, follow Spatium’s maintenance routine: oil the steel shaft inside the leg regularly, and if rust ever shows, clean it off with WD-40 and protect it with machine oil. That keeps the drive spinning smoothly ride after ride.

Made for one adult rider on calm water

One saddle, one set of pedals, one rider: a solo craft for adults, built for calm inland water such as lakes, reservoirs and sheltered flat water, close to shore. Wear a buoyancy aid on every ride, as Spatium recommends.

Frequently asked questions

How stable is it?

Very. Two separate inflatable hulls sit well apart with the frame in the gap between them, so you ride on a base that is wider than it is tall. Buyers say it is “super stable and feels very safe.”

Do I need to buy a pump?

A manual two-way hand pump with a pressure gauge is on the packing list and comes in the box. An electric pump is an optional convenience.

How long does setup take?

It is eight steps, the bolt-together part is quick, and the pump is the bulk of it. It gets faster every time you do it.

Where can I ride it?

Calm inland water: lakes, reservoirs and sheltered flat water, close to shore. If you ride in salt water, rinse it with fresh water afterwards.

How shallow can I take it?

Spatium rates the drive to about 50 cm (20 in) of water. Shallower than that, lift the leg and let the hulls carry you — they draw very little.

What happens if I puncture a hull?

A repair kit is in the box. Spatium’s procedure: deflate fully and dry, cut a patch that overlaps the damage by at least 2 in on every side, clean the area with alcohol, apply three coats of adhesive five minutes apart, roll the patch down, then leave it a full 24 hours to cure before re-inflating.

Does it fit in a normal car?

Spatium’s manual says the quick-release frame goes in the trunk of a typical family car, and the deflated hulls roll into the supplied backpack. No trailer and no roof bars.

Which color should I choose?

Twelve colorways, all the same craft underneath. In strong sun on a dark hull, hold 10–12 PSI rather than the full 15, because dark PVC gains more heat and the internal pressure rises with it.

Can two people ride it?

It is a solo craft: one saddle, one set of pedals, one rider. Spatium makes a separate tandem model for two.

Pedal across the lake, balanced, quiet and in control. Add the water bike to your cart and be on the water this weekend.
